Club Details
The History In November 2000, the 2 leading clubs in Stirling decided to merge to form one larger club. Stirling Mountain Bike Club had a large number of young riders looking for some fun and a bit of assistance in training for races whereas VC Olympia had long been established and had a large membership of people looking to encourage younger riders to take up the sport of cycling. After initial discussions, the new club was formed and called Stirling Bike Club. Alongside these discussion there was a link created with a local bike shop - Wheels of Callander. Wheels offered to give club members discounts on parts and accessories and also help out with the club clothing, in return Stirling Bike Club would promote the shop in any way we could - including having the logo printed on the club clothing and also provided a large pool of talent for the race team. The idea behind the club was to not only help develop racers but to encourage mroe people out on bikes. With this in mind the membership options were geared towards singular and family-orientated membership. The club slowly started to gather momentum and has so far been an incredible success. This has been down to the committee as much as any of the memebrs as they have kept the information flowing throughout which has made the memebrs feel part of the process. Club rides were started and over a very small period of time people were coming from all over to join the rides (at the height of the Foot and Mouth Epidemic, we did have one guy from Newcastle drive up to ride with us!). On the race scene the striking tops stood out clearly from any other team and gradually people started to recognise who we were. Results started to flow in and by the end of the session every category that was raced was being fought (and sometime won) against some stiff competition. In late April of 2001, the club appearred in MBUK with a Ride Guide of the local area, this has now been added to the website, click here to find out more. Not content with such a successful start to the club's year, the chairman, Iain Nimmo took it upon himself to organise one of the most successful Cyclo-Cross races, whichw as held at Plean Country Park. So successful was the event that many racers have asked when the next round will be taking place. Details are available here. Although there is much written about racing and the young ones of the club, there is a large group within the club of family members. It's not only the kids who are wanting to join in and many parents can be found on the club rides. Overall the club's emphasis is on Fun, without the fun element there would be no reason for people to cycle so we try to ensure the whole club ethos has fun intermixed with it all. The membership form is available for downloading, printing and sending in. Click here to download a copy of it.
