Trossachs Bike Trail
Sunday 16th September 2001

The Anthony Nolan Trust and Callander and West Perthshire Rotary Club have joined forces to organise a joint Trossachs Trek and Bike Trail to raise money for the Trust and for Rotary Charities.

The Trek will start from Aberfoyle and will head north over the Menteith hills on a circular route that follows the Forest Drive and forest tracks back to Aberfoyle. The Bike Trail will start and finish at the Trossachs Backpackers Hostel 1 mile south of Callander. Adequate car parking is available at both locations from 10am onwards.

Bike Trail riders have two options, giving rides of 25 35Km. Both rides start with 5km on a private tarmac road alongside Loch Vennacher and on the cycle track around the head of the loch. The 35km trail follows the same route as the trek back towards Aberfoyle but then heads east above Aberfoyle village and golf course, briefly joining the A81 before turning north along an Invertrossachs Estate track to emerge again on the south shore of Loch Vennacher. From there it returns along the loch side private road to the Hostel. NB. The 35km route is suitable only for very fit and experienced cyclists as it involves a number of very long steep uphill gradients.

25km bikers will have the option of either turning back when they feel they have done enough or continuing on, joining the Forest Drive to Loch Achray, then looping back along forest rods to rejoin the Loch Vennacher bike track back towards the Hostel.

Accomodation is available in small family rooms for Saturday, Sunday or even Friday night if you want to make a real weekend break - provided you book early enough! If there is enough interest an evening barbecue may be arranged at Trossachs Backpackers. Bikes of various types are available for hire. Cycling helmets are compulsory and may be hired if required. The walk and the ride will be waymarked and experienced Marshals will be available at key points along the route.

All participants will be required to pledge any sponsorship money raised and a prize will be given for the largest individual and group contribution to Rotary charities.

EARLY REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL AS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ENTRIES IS LIMITED. Please register today by posting or faxing the enclosed application form (early registration does not commit you to take part)
