Wallace Warriors - Junior Cycle Coaching PDF Print E-mail

Who is it for?

Youths and juniors, both girls and boys, between the age of 8-16 years old (but even those age limits are not that strict!!).

How do I join in?

Unfortunately the Warriors are currently heavily oversubscribed and all sessions currently full.

Please contact warriors@stirlingbikeclub.org.uk for further information or to be added to the waiting list.

What does the coaching entail?

All sessions will be OFF-ROAD and involve games and exercises to develop handling/race skills and cycle fitness. Its all meant to be fun and introduce children to cycling as a sport rather than just a pastime or means of transport.

Activities are fun, exciting and challenging for newcomers and more experienced riders alike. Young people will learn essential cycling skills that will make them safer, better and faster than their friends. There’s also a Skills Test that challenges even the best riders, so whatever your ability level, you will have a great time!

Codes of Conduct

To make sure every body has a safe and fun time we have adopted these codes of conduct for everybody.

Mountain Bike Racing - SXC Series

There is a series of 5 mountain bike races between March 2013 - September 2013 for all age groups: Juvenile, Youth, Junior, U12, U10 and U8. Prizes for boys & girls.

Details at:-http://www.sxc.org.uk/events_detail.php?id=35&type=assoc

Racing is associated with whippets, brutal training regimes and pain fests…don't be fooled - it can be as easy or hard as you want to make it!  Don't worry about where might you place in a race (finishing can be an achievement at times!); SXC racing is about getting out on your bike, getting down and dirty, meeting a great bunch of like minded Mtb'ers and enjoying the day .  You have to jump in somewhere, sometime, and this is a great place to do it.

So get your parents entered in the adult races then they have no excuse for not taking you !!

BRAVEHEART CYCLE FUND SUPPORT THE WARRIORS

January 2012 - we've just heard the great news that the Warriors have been awarded £1500 by the Braveheart Cycling Fund. This money is to provide equipment for running youth races & training.

WARRIORS TEXT ALERTS

The Warriors now use an automated text alert service which will mainly be used to text everyone to let them know if a training session has to be cancelled due to bad weather, so please make sure the contact number we have for you is an up to date one. Up to date details about the sessions will be on the forum- so keep an eye out for them.

Sessions & Venue:

  • Every Thursday, 19:00 - 20.30 (sign in from 18:45) in Stirling at Beechwood park, next to Scout Hut or at the Old Ice Rink, behind Stirling High School

We have our own pitch lights so the dark winter nights are not a problem - watch this space and the thread on the forum for details & updates.

Do I need my own bike and helmet?

Currently the club does not hold its own stock of bikes but this is something we are planning on in the future, in particular for more specialised types of riding such as the track. Therefore it is preferable to have your own bike with knobbly tyres and a HELMET.

The club does hold a stock of helmets and these can be supplied on the night but DO contact us in advance so that these can be brought along to sessions.

Who takes the sessions:

We have 8 qualified coaches within the club – Donald McLean, lead coach (Level 3 Coach and Road and Time Trial discipline specific unit; Level 2 Track), Bazz Paterson (level 2), Steve Field (level 2 and MTB discipline specific unit), John Reid (level 2), James Wilson (level 2), Steven Cartwright (level 2), Archie Johnstone (Level 2 Coach and Road and Time Trial discipline specific unit); and George Duncan (level 2)

You can contact them on warriors@stirlingbikeclub.org.uk

Is there a cost?

Each session will cost £2
