Wallace Warriors, the junior section of Stirling Bike Club, are pleased to announce a new sponsorship arrangement with Wheels of Callander supported by sportscotland for the provision of 6 junior road/cyclo-cross bikes. The bikes, which are ideally sized for children aged 6 to 12, will be used to enable club members who normally ride a mountain bike to experience cycling disciplines that they might otherwise miss out on, to help them find new aspects of the sport that appeal to them and broaden the range of coaching that the club offers its members.
Wallace Warriors has grown over the past 4 years to become one of the most successful junior cycling clubs in Scotland, regularly seeing more than 50 children at their Thursday night coaching sessions at Beechwood Park in Stirling. Wheels of Callander provides a centre to promote and support cycling activities in the Trossachs covering accommodation, bike hire, sales and servicing.
Sportscotland's sportsmatch scheme matches commercial business sponsorship on a £ for £ basis for projects that support grass roots sport at a community level.
The new road bikes enabled several members to get the most out of a recent 'away day' closed road coaching session at the Tulliallan police college where more than 40 children were given road-specific coaching followed by a mini race. It is hoped that the bikes will continue to be used at future Wallace Warriors coaching sessions and at local and national cycling events.
