So sad to hear about Lew today. You couldn't have met a nicer guy. I didn't know him for as long as most folk did, but have some great memories of club rides with him. Sincere condolences to his family. We'll miss you Lew.

Very saddened to hear this., I thought he would go on forever, always be there on the rare occasion, I would get out on the Saturday ride.

Lew was a one of those riders that all cycling clubs need and struggle to thrive without,  i.e; a constant, calm and strong presence, always there come rain or shine, with a constant high level of fitness, enthusiasm and most importantly, good humour.

Will never forget you Lew, you were inspirational to all of us.

Extremely sad to hear this. Lew was fantastic at looking after me when I joined the club, and his knowledge of every road within a forty mile radius of Stirling will be greatly missed.

I remember how welcoming Lew was on my first road ride with Stirling and can only imagine how many riders have been lucky enough to share his company in the bunch over the years/decades.  What an inspiration.

this is just awful.  Lew was the first person I met in the Club and he was so supportive and encouraging to someone who knew next to nothing about cycling.  I can still see him on that sunny May morning behind the old swimming pool.  He took the club to where it is today - we'll all remember the Saturday morning 'mystery tours' and places he took us which we would never have seen otherwise.  He'll be so missed.

RIP Lew.  Didn't know him well but recall getting lots of advice from him when I first joined the club almost 10 years ago.  Sympathies to his family.

Terribly sad to hear of Lew's passing. Lew was the person that led all of the rides I did when I first got my road bike and was a real inspiration. He was always friendly, not only asking about how the cycling was going, but he showed a genuine interest in my family and how the children were doing. He always surprised me with his ability to find new roads that I'd never be able to find again and, as the instigator of the Italian trips, introduced me to the joys of riding the longer climbs and roads of Europe. My deepest sympathy to Margaret and the family; Lew will be missed by me, my family and the club.

A very sad day. Lew truely was an inspiration to so many of us. He was one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met, not just in cycling but in life.

Very sad to hear of Lew's passing, I was round at Braco and Gleneagles Rd yesterday and thought of Lew, wondering if he would again catch me up with the first group at SBC trial, Brian was the reason Lew took up cycling just to help and encourage him. a great guy. sadly missed.

Having first met Lew in the early 70s when we both worked at the Distillers site in Menstrie , our paths have regularly crossed on a number of occasions over the years.  Lew was, and still is, a legend, one of a small group of individuals who never had a bad word to say about anyone and whose personal qualities, most of us can only aspire to.   He was modest, easy-going, patient, genuine, a really nice bloke and a great family man and granddad, loved by everyone who knew him.   I will never forget the wonderful cycle holidays with Lew and his family in the Belvedere Hotel, Riccione where he was well-known and respected by cyclists from all over Europe.

It was a fitting tribute to his efforts over the years to see him awarded the Contribution To The Club Award in December, a great achievement from a great man who will be sadly missed by us all.

Well - I was going to wait a bit - but since the point has been made regarding renaming one of our races, some may be aware that I will now be representing SBC on the Mid Scotland Cycling Association.  On Monday I was 'elected' MSCA's Road Race secretary.

Jim Prentice and I were there together and we advised of Lew's sad passing.

In my new role, I am obviously keen to promote SBC and the MSCA and discussed the opportunity of later in this years race calendar, SBC organising a new Vets Road Race - The Lew Weaver Memorial Vets RR (or some other appropriate name) that will combine with the MSCA Vets RR Championship.  I will be happy to take part in the organisation.

I have not raised this with the SBC's committee, so this at a very early stage of consideration.

Although I echo what AnotherAndy has said, based on the comments that highlight the very positive way Lew has touched so many of us near and far, it may be even more fitting to organise a new event specifically dedicated to Lew's legacy, whatever that might be.
