Middle Group ideas for saturday 28th
« on: July 23, 2012, 10:02:47 PM »
I know everyone will probably want to be glued to the TV for the men’s Olympic Road race but it don’t finish till 16:00  ;D.

Just an idea for a new run if anyone wants to try it, could be a fair bit of climbing but as always we will slow it down on the climbs and take it easy on the descents.

60 mile loop going south west, Picking up new line road, over the hill to the Carron bridge hotel, along the carron valley to the fintry junction, over the crow, Lennoxtown, Glen road to Strathblane, Killearn, Balfron, Roman road out to half way up the top of the world climb from fintry, then down into Kippen, Coldoch road, packers (or kirk) lane, chalmerston road, Corrie's.

Might take up to 4 hours depending on the average mph.

Good one Derek - would like to try out these new legs Jim T has given me.

Still going for a 10am start?

Wasn't sure to suggest an 09:30 start so we get back to Corrie's for 13:30?

I would be up for that (after my massive bowl of porridge and 4 cups of coffee) should be fine for 09:30.

If a slower group didn't want to go over the crow they could go right at the fintry turn and through past Ballikinrain School to the end of the road and then right to balfron and pick up the same climb back up to the top of the world? think it would shorten the run by say 10 miles ??

I was going to suggest below too:

Slightly earlier start & a short-cut for me!

Also the wind seems to be relatively strong out the SW (as forecast now for the weekend)

Who will do the Rogers/Porte/Froomedog work to haul the group up the Long Line/Crow Rd?

Good wee day yesterday, think the worst bit of road was coming up from Balfron to meet the road from fintry to the top of the world, Lesley tells me that is called the "Honey home" road although there was nothing Sweet about it! better road to go if your by yourself, not ideal for the bunch.

Here's my data from yesterday on Strava, ignore my Heart Rate info think the battery was dying on the HR strap or was that just me  :D

Enjoyed yesterday.

Checked out the data but could not see your heart rate info.  If your heart rate was higher than usuall perhaps it was because at one point your were pushing my sorry backside up a climb as well as your own.

Two of us went up this road on Saturday, probably just a few minutes before you, and it was far from ideal for us as well! (What is the call for a pile of mud in the middle of the road?)
Unfortunately, the alternative isn't so good. Unless the council have done some work in recent months, the B818 from Endrick Bridge to Fintry is a bone-rattling nightmare.

I would have loved to come on this ride!  Agreed the honeycomb road is terrible.
