MTB Development Ride - Saturday 4th August
« on: August 03, 2012, 07:21:38 AM »
Hey Folks,

If you've been lurking in the fringes, keen to come out with the club but worried about your skill and fitness levels, here's your chance to find out how unfounded your worries are. If you can get up a flight of steps without a nose bleed your better than most of us. If you can get down a flight of steps without smacking into a wall, your far better than me!

Tomorrow's ride is open to everyone from beginner to expert. Just come along to Costa's Coffee shop (across from Graham Tiso at the train station end of Stirling Town centre) at around 9am with a bike in good working order, a helmet, enough food and water to last you 3-4 hrs in the countryside, some money for cake stops and most importantly a good sense of humour.

We're very much a social club, but if you are super fast we've got some young whipper-snappers we can send on up ahead to keep you company. Likewise, if you're a bit on the slower side, look behind and you'll always see me labouring up the hill behind you.

So come on out and have a laugh with us, I can almost guarantee you won't regret it.

Beagy  ;)

Thanks guys for a fun ride this morning.

Quick update, turned out Gordon fell off his bike but unfortunately hit a rock. He sent the rest of the group away but then struggled to walk back to the road. Another group of cyclists came to his rescue. I picked up his undamaged bike & followed him to hospital. Fortunately he has escaped with grazing & bruising over his right kidney so he'll be sore for a while but nothing more serious.

Can someone let me know how Dougy is?

Hi Tina,

In the rush to get down out of Mine Woods after you received your call, Dougie stacked it really hard and ended up quite badly conncussed. He had no memory of how he'd crashed and couldn't even remember you being in the group. I called for an ambulance and he ended up being taken to Forth Valley. I've had a message from him though thanking everyone for looking after him. So they've obviously not decided he's ripe for the 'Soylent Green' treatment just yet.

Get well soon everyone.

Glad to hear everyone is okay, in hindsight I should have stayed with Gordon until he was at the road no matter what he said. :(

Here are some photos from the ride:

Thank you all for your concern. I am feeling a lot better today. A few cuts and bruises and some very sore ribs which will heal. It is a bit scary that I cant remember anything about the crash from a few moments before to quite some time after.
Thank you to everybody for looking after me.

So glad you're feeling better Dougie. If it makes you feel any better, I have very little recollection of yesterday either. After you left in the ambulance the rest of us headed down to the Westerton Arms where we were joined by Pedro's group and then Manu and his friends. I think it was about 7ish before Kerry dragged me out the place. :P

Hi Dougie,

Glad to hear you are feeling better.  Sounds like you had quite a crash.  Bet you're glad someone took some photos so you can remember it and we can all share the experience!

All the best!

I'm glad everyone is ok - it turned out to be quite an eventfull first ride! doogie i still cant work out what you did i was a bit behind and you went over the lip and it sounded like everything went fine - there was the usual chainslap/bump noises then when i got to the lip you were in a heap at the bottom i'm guessing a nasty root jumped out at you! anyway im glad you are on the mend and tina im glad your partner is not as bad as we thought ( and the bike is fine) I hope to do it again soon - are the non development rides done at a higher pace? if so i'll be back out next month!

Craig,

You'll be fine on the normal rides.

The biggest worry with Dougie was trying to figure out if his memory loss was natural or came from the fall.

Me: "Dougie, when were you born?"

Dougie: "In the olden days, when dragons ruled the earth"

Me: "Okaaay, the old giffer seems fine to me!"
