Hi everyone
I would like to invite you all (at-least anyone who's interested in trying their hand at track riding) to join us at the SBC & Wallace Warriors Track Intro Day on Sunday 18th September at Meadowbank Velodrome in Edinburgh.
Regional BC Coach, Mark Young, will lead the day which will run from 10am to 3pm. There will be a few refreshments and some lunch provided (and there's a MacDonald's just across the road!)
Track bikes will be available to borrow from ESCA (if you do not have one of your own) so please arrive in plenty of time to get fitted out with a suitable size and make any saddle / bar adjustments etc.
We'll aim to use the time to work through:-
- some basic track etiquette & safety
- do's and don'ts of the track
- getting on and off the bike / onto and off the track (not as easy as it sounds!)
- riding fixed gear and regulating speed
- riding the banking
- group riding, strings and pace-lines etc
...finishing off with maybe a few 'events' so you can practice your new skills!
The session is predominantly aimed at Warriors & Juniors looking to get their first taste of riding on the track but is open to everyone & anyone from SBC / WW who fancies having a go.
Because of the steepness of the banking at Meadowbank (45 degrees), it is recommended that only people 10yrs old and upwards ride as, younger than this, they are simply not heavy enough to stick to the track!!! Additionally, the number of bikes available in the smaller sizes is quite limited. So, if you are intending to come along and borrow a bike, please let me know age & size required etc.
To cover the cost of hiring the track, providing fire marshalls (don't even ask!) and catering etc, we're asking an entry of £8 per person for the day. If we get a bigger response than expected then we can look to reduce this accordingly so, the more of you that can come, the better it is for everyone!
At the moment, the 18th September appears to be the best date as it does not appear to clash with any other significant local events. However, if it turns out that the majority cannot make the 18th, the following Sunday 25th, is a possible option
This is a tremendous opportunity to have a go in a 'safe environment' at an arm of our sport that many people never get the chance to try. Going round and round in anticlockwise circles may not sound that thrilling but, trust me, it gets under your skin very quickly!
If you would like to join us at Meadowbank on the 18th then please either reply to this post, send me a PM or ping me a quick message at
pcullen74@googlemail.com and I will keep a list of who's coming
I look forward to seeing lots of you there and to an exciting, fun day
Cheers
Peter
