MTB Open Ride June 2nd 2012
« on: May 30, 2012, 08:52:12 AM »
Hey folks, the 1st Saturday of the month is rapidly approaching again and that can only mean it's time for the infamous, and catchily named......

"Please come out for a ride with us, we really want to be your friend, but not in a needy way, oh no. Can we though? Can we be your friend?"

.....ride.  ;D ;D

Open to everyone from beginners, through to Peaty wannabe's, all that we ask is that you turn up with a bike in good working order. A helmet, suitable clothing and enough food and drink for 4 hours in the countryside and most importantly, your sense of humour.  ;)

We meet up at Costa's coffee shop, just across from Graham Tiso's down at the train station end of Stirling town centre. I'll be there from around 9am for coffee and cake and the general aim is to head off to the trails around 9.30 am.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

What a superb tunout for a brilliant ride!  8)

We split into two groups. with seven of us taking the less technical option of a couple of laps around Cambusbarron Woods, whilst the other half of the group headed over towards the three cliffs.

We parted with the fast / skilled / + Andrew  ;) group at the burnt out tree and headed towards the bombhole. Despite the lovely, dry conditions we still managed to conjure up a few 'momets'. I smacked a tree after a massive front wheel slide out then Manu's nephew flew over the bars after trying to roll that stupid jump in the middle of the path, despite being warned about it several times in English and French!  ::) Kids today, I ask you?  :P

Negotiating the bombhole my blood turned cold at the sound of a high pitched, terrified scream. I thought I'd pushed the group too far and one of the ladies out with us had come a cropper.   :-[. Thankfully though, it was only the sound of Dom trying to negotiate the bombhole on his Crosser!  :P

Exiting Cambu we whizzed down Tinker's Loan and the nipped up to my shortcut. Here, I warned everyone about the boobytraps submerged in the left hand side of the deep muddy bit and then demonstrated that there are quite effective booby traps submereged on the right hand side as well. Bleurgh! Dragging myself out of the gloop we finished up back down at the Swanswater track and headed back along towards the woodlands.

At this point I thought I had a cunning plan. I aimed to climb up the trail at the bottom of the cliff, turn in at the Limekilns and then ride the lovely trail along the steam, thus avoiding all the trees blocking the head of this trail. Unfortunately there are trees down the full length of this trail as well. Oh dear!  :P

We finished off with a final descent, twisting and turning our way through Cambu woods. I had great time, it's always fun meeting new folk and hopefully we'll see you all out on a ride again soon!

Cheers dudes
