Bitch of a Beach

Get this...Plane from Prestwick to Charleroi south of Brussels, Bus to the Charleroi Train Station, Train to Antwerp, Another Train to Mol then a short trip on the Bell Bus to Zilvermeer, Total trip time 5 hrs, Total Cost......£30 each !!!! How good is that?

The digs were good too, 100 Euro for the 3 of us for 3 nights, thats only £21.00 each for 3 nights accomodation. So return travel + accomodation for 3 nights = £80.00

The race was (kinda) OK, I led out on the tar section before getting a bit scared with the combination of speed / corner / oncomming Beach and missed a couple of pedal turns only to let half a dozen riders by me. One of which went straight over the bars as we hit the 8" deep beach section, I went into the back of him, snapped the strap on my SPD's and got chainringed across the leg.

About 30 riders got out the Beach section before me as I got untangled. (next year I'll be prepared, I'll watch Braveheart before the race and the bastards will suffer) The race was crazy, it was more like a game of 'road rash.' No one overtakes/lets you by without a shoulder challenge! Or worse outstretched fist!

Almost had a full on battle with an Army CU guy, someone from the side shouted "watch out Iain, He's in the Army" As he tried to wrap his bike round my neck!

We had the crowd on our side, I think a combination of a Kilted Richard and Janet jeering them up and by me taking big air off a jump that no-one else had seen fit to use. The Army Guy got some big verbal for the rest of the race, there were Germans and Spanish joining in with Janet and Richard to abuse him wildly... which was kinda Cool as he had been a bit of an arse seeing as we were 2 minutes out of contention. Maybe need to take Mad Man McEwan along next year !!!

Richard Barton's KiltTrip highlights:

Richard clearing a train by leaving the toilet door open after using it. Grown Men had Jerseys pulled over their faces.

Chef Nimmo and his CuisineDo it yerself Dinner at Sun Parks

The one Stella that Janet allowed me!

When the Spanish chick came round looking to borrow some oil, Richard let her in saying "come in, you'll get soaked out there in that rain." The Spanish chick entered and said "You English?" To which Richard promptly replied "GET OUT!" Pointing at the door.
