Glenrothes, Round 4 Race Report and Results

Round 4 of the Scottish Cyclo-cross Series took place at Riverside Park in Glenrothes on Sunday.

James Fraser Moodie, Pedal Power, took every advantage possible in winning the 15.5 mile race, with the series leader Iain Nimmo missing from the line up and after trailing behind Dan Whitehead until a puncture at half distance for Whitehead moved Fraser Moodie into the lead which he held until the end.

With overnight rain drying in the Autumn sunshine the conditions were right for a fast and furious race. Early leader was Craig Hardie, Gary Fisher UK from Whitehead and Kenny Kentley, Velo Ecosse, in 4th spot was Kevin Barclay, Edinburgh Racers, fresh from his win in the youth race 15 minutes earlier.

By the second lap Whitehead had edged into the lead from Hardie and overall series contender Stephen Jackson, Glasgow MBC, Fraser Moodie and James Melville, Glasgow United, were making steady progress through the field after slow starts.

By lap 6 of the 14 lap race Whitehead punctured letting Fraser Moodie move into the lead followed by Hardie and Jackson, Whitehead rejoined in fifth place one minute behind the leader.

Whitehead moved up into second position by lap 9 pushing Hardie back into third place and Melville had fought his way up to fourth place. With three laps to go Melville passed Hardie for third place with Fraser Moodie winning by 50 seconds.

In the youth race the track based club 'Edinburgh Races' took the top three places with local lad Kevin Barclay winning from Ross Yates and Patrick Galbraith.
