Glasgow United Round 3

Sunday saw the 3rd round of the Scottish Cross league take place at Clydebank on the Auchentoshan course. The hosting Club Glasgow United decided to change the direction of the course this year which made for a much faster lap and provided the closest and hardest fought race of the Series so far. After a fast start from Gareth Montgommery (Edinburgh Uni) and Kenny Kentley (Velo Ecosse) the end of the first lap saw the trio of Frederick Morriston (CC Abeits) winner from round two, Iain Nimmo (Merlin Rocklobster) winner from round one and Dan Whitehead (Cannondale) pull away from the rest of the field. The three riders remained locked in battle as the gap on the chasing field opened up with Andrew Cox of Midlothian chasing hard in 4th. The race looked like it was going to be decided on a sprint finish between the three riders until the second last lap which saw Whitehead pull out a ten second gap on Morriston and Nimmo coming out of the running section. The two riders worked hard on the last lap to pull the Cannondale rider back but their efforts failed with Morriston crossing the line only 2 seconds down and Nimmo @ 4 seconds in 3rd. This leaves each of the riders with a win each and everything to ride for in the remaining four rounds which continue next weekend at the popular venue of Town Park in Glenrothess at the earlier times of 10:30am for youth and 11:15 for other cats.

The Junior race saw Stephen Paterson make it three in a row leaving him favorite for the overall series. Alistair Millar (Full Mental-Ricks Bike Shed) Confirmed his superiority in the Youth Category taking the win with a good margin while Douglas Shearer of Stirling Bike Club-Wheels of Callender put in a valant effort to secure 2nd.

The womans race saw Sarah Gilliam take her 2nd win but by no means running away with the series as she will miss the next round leaving things open for Christine Allan to scoop up the points.

The Series is being run with thanks to Stirling Bike Club, Glasgow United and Midlothian with Prizes from Hardie Bikes, Pedal Power and West End Cycles.

Hand Crafted trophies on offer for top three in each category compliments of Glenochil Prison.

SERIES PRIZE PRESENTATION TO BE HELD AT THE LAST ROUND ON 2nd OF DECEMBER @ STRATHLEVEN.
