Glen Artney
11th August 2002
A small, but elite group of riders started from Stirling.
We rode on-road over Sherrifmuir, through Greenloaning and
Braco, Comrie Moor road and turned off into the Glen Artney
road. It started raining at this point. We then picked up
the hill track. What does no "gnilcyc on" mean?

Darren, Douglas, Kieran and Andrew at the start of the track

We nearly got picked off by a flock of cows, but they were
persuaded to go and chew some grass instead.

Neat little bridge

Waiting for someone - probably Andrew

The track consisted of two wheel tracks, with lots of little
water splashes and bordered by very wet grass.
A passing rock snagged Kierans' derailleur cable, so he
could only access the small cog. Didn't slow him down though.

Emerging by the reservoir at the Callander end of the glen.
The track had disappeared, but we were soon to hit a more
significant farm track. Descending past the farm (not exactly
pro-cycling in their signage) was a skoosh!
On reaching Callander, we found ourselves being inexplicably
drawn towards Wheels
of Callander / Trossachs Backpackers. Here Janet forced
unlimited amounts of tea, coffee, shortbread and warm towels
upon us. Douglas was then caught raiding the store looking
for muesli bars, so we were also offered some scrummy oatcakey
things.
Thank you !

Douglas summons up the energy to go looking for more food

Kieran preserves body heat.
We then rode back to Stirling on-road in heavy rain via Doune and the Carse road. A good ride but damper than was absolutely necessary for a good day out!
Next week...The eastern Ochils (that's pronounced oKils
!)
