Pete's outline for the year...
"The plan will be to finish the Ewok Village with a
new (and safer) See Saw and Eric's Wall of Death. We also
have to make sure the fall area round the most difficult stunts
is much more well, bouncy castle-like, by laying down a thick
covering of chipped bark and by removing some of the nastiest
stumps. I'm going to try to source a winch that will allow
us to haul the stumps out with minimum root excavation.
Next on the agenda will be re-shaping any jumps, kickers
or doubles on the Red and Black routes and on the Freeride
Area, to make them safer and more novice friendly. There are
several that are too 'sharp' to hit at speed and a few that
could be moved to a better position for a 'downslope landing'.
This is not a move towards namby-pambyness. It will allow
us to have bigger jumps for those that can and safer jumps
for those that can't.
After that we may get involved in building some stone pitched
features and possibly the easy timber stunts on the new Skills
Area.
That would be a year's worth of work in anyone's' book. OK?
Pete."

"We normally meet at the Hub at 9.00am and work till
about 1.00ish. If 9 is too early, just come when it suits
and follow the Camp X-Ray signs up to the work site in Kirn
Law. We normally do a Black/Red mix and match thing afterwards
so bring your bike. See you on Saturday."

You do not need any experience with trail building to help
out as Pete explains the processes involved and gives demonstrations
of what needs done (and why). The day involves physical work
and can be quite strenuous at times, therefore the more people
that come along the easier it will be for everyone.
After the 4 hours trail work most people then go for a social
ride to wind down and let the bodies relax afterwards.
Photography in this section was done by
Pete Laing at various locations - some are from Coed-y-Brenin
in Wales, others are from the Trail Building days at Glentress.
Andy MacCandlish has also provided many of the photographs. |
