Callander Weekend
of Fun
26-27th April
2003
Saturday - Glen Ample
Very wet but fun ride.
Featuring 12 of the club's finest and soggiest riders.
Heavy rain stopped me from taking too many pictures. Usual
route - Wheels, Ben Ledi Car park, Glen Ample to Lochearnhead,
Kingshouse, Strathyre and back to Wheels.

The lucky dozen

River crossing - Scotty Dog.
Ian PV

Julie "recycle that" McKinney

Steve Blennerhasset

Linda
Lunch was at The Rob Roy in Kingshouse. Soup, coffee, beer,
with cheese and chips, brought tired legs back to life.
The main mob continued on the road to Strathyre before picking
up the Sustrans track back to Wheels. Julie and Briggie bussed
it back, returning to collect Canuck Scott and Linda. Scott
received many a black look for ordering a pint of Guinness
just as the main mob exited into the rain. Linda ordered rhubarb
and custard.
Accounts of previous rides through this glen, together with
GPS routes and tracklogs can be found here.
An excellent evening was spent at Trossach's Backpackers
/ Wheels of Callander.
Sunday - Menteith Hills
More heavy rain!
The elite three (Scotty Dog, Fiona and I) were joined by
a couple more SBC members and the Human Tripods from Helensburgh
for a mucky ride of the Menteith Hills.
Climbing on the Forest Drive to David Marshall Lodge for
lunch, we then headed towards the Highland Fault and back
to Loch Venachar and Wheels.

John Leeming - A Human Tripod

Stuart "Sidney"Wilson says a big "Hi"to
all HBOS employees!
And then the sun came out !

Riding the Menteith Hill track
Much giggling punctuated this ride as we found boggy bits,
slippy rocks, technical tracks, and deep mud - all with fine
views.
Stuart walked all the difficult bits.

Fiona descends towards Loch Venachar
An excellent ride!
A GPS root guide and tracklog will follow.
A massive thank you to Mark and Janet at Trossach's
Backpackers / Wheels of Callander for their help, hospitality,
cups of tea, power wash, bike fettling and too many other
things to mention that made us all feel welcome. You will
not find a more comfortable place to stay!
Stay tuned for news on the next Weekend of Fun at Callander
