Road Ride Info
Road Section
The Road section meet at the Stirling Swimming Pool at 10:00
am on Saturday mornings for a 2-3 hours leisurely ride. The
ride is between 15-20mph and is a social ride intended for
anyone with a road bike to join - or for those with a mountain
bike, it can be just as tough as the road ride on Sunday for
road bikes!
On a Sunday the road section meet at 10:00 at the swimming pool for a longer, harder ride. Distances range from 50-100 miles on the day and the pace is a bit faster. For directions to where the road section meet, click here - the red arrow shows where the meeting point is. The following piece of text is from Lew Weaver who is a regular cyclist on the road rides -
"The road riding in the winter months is mainly confined,
as you know, to the weekend - with a 20 to 40 ml run on
the Saturday and 40-80 mls on a Sunday, both runs being
dependant on weather and turnout of bodies. There are no
hard and fast rules for routes and these are decided on
the day according to wind direction etc., unlike the CSW
who have a "runs list" and claim to stick to it
come what may (although we know different). In summer months
the above runs continue, but obviously won't include the
people who are racing. In addition there are training sessions
during the week.'
'In previous years we have gathered for a "wheelabout"
on a Tuesday evening, but this was abandoned last year due
to lack of numbers. The Thursday evening session however
sees us joining in with the Falkirk clubs "race"
which always has a good turnout. There was also a CSW run
time trial on a Wednesday evening."
Any events that are listed can be found by clicking here. They have all be grouped in the Road Race Section - not strictly ideal but the navigation has to be re-designed to accomodate this!
Wheelabouts
Thursdays see the popular Falkirk training night where many SBC
members can be found honing their race legs or just getting a good
workout/kicking
(delete
as appropriate)
Details and a map can be found on their site.
When the clocks go back, training sessions will start on Tuesdays
on the Chartershall Circuit. We will meet at 6.15pm at Chartershall
for a 6.30pm start.
For those who are unsure of where that is, it's the
right
turn (Fairhill
Road) as you out
of town on the Glasgow Road, just before the 1314
inn, and after the Bannockburn Visitor centre hotel - the one which
takes you up towards
the Carron Valley. Location here.
