Many of you will be aware of plans to restart quarrying in a local area popular with mountain bikers and walkers.
Some areas of the wood will disappear  but also when the quarry is operational access may be limited.
There is a meeting arranged to organise fight these plans.

Write to your MSP now!!

Details of the meeting below:

SAVING GILLIES HILL
PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE - MAINTAINING SAFE ROADS
ENFORCING PLANNING LEGISLATION
Wednesday 28 March 2007 7.30 pm. Cambusbarron Community Centre
Bring your friends and your ideas. Take Action!

Over 120 people crammed into the village hall for the Cambusbarron Community Council on the 20th March 2007.
It unanimously mandated the Community Council to stop more destruction of the environment that is threatened by Murrayshall Quarry proposals at Gillies Hill.

The meeting called for every household in the area to write a letter to the press, or their MSP, or their Councillor to demand that the authorities stop destruction of the environment.

Gillies Hill is a national asset - it must not be destroyed.

You can write to:
The Editor, Stirling Observer,40 Upper Craigs, Stirling, Stirlingshire FK8 2DW
The Editor, Scotland on Sunday, Barclay House, 108 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh EH8 8AS
Your MSP, The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh EH99 1SP
Your Councillor, Stirling Council, Viewforth, Stirling, FK8 2ET

The meeting called for ACTION:-
The Murrayshall Quarry Liaison Group has not had unequivocal answers from Stirling Council on the local concerns:

Have the current proposals for quarrying stretched beyond those permitted by the 1980 /1982 planning consent?
Have the 1980/1982 planning conditions been changed by the 2002 review made by Stirling Council without consultation with the community council?
Previous planning conditions ref S/80/116 state at Condition 3:-
“The Developer shall ensure that, throughout the period of extraction, the quarry operations do not create a nuisance to the community or the environment…”
How would the current Murrayshall Quarry proposals safeguard the environment?
Where is the enforcement to prevent creation of a nuisance for the community?
Residents are protesting that action is required to save Gillies Hill and preserve our heritage.
The Community Council has arranged a Quarry Action meeting for 28th March – all are welcome!

I've been writing to my MSPs!
Copy and past and do the same....
Send to Sylvia Jackson MSP <sylvia.jackson.msp@scottish.parliament.uk>

"I am writing to you to object in the strongest possible manner to plans by Murrayshall Quarry to restart quarrying in Cambusbarron.

I have several key concerns:
The increase in heavy vehicular traffic on local roads with the associated increased hazards that result to pedestrians, particularly children, and cyclists.

I am also very concerned about the loss of local woodland that is a valuable local amenity.  This woodland is very popular with local walkers and mountain bikers - not just from Cambusbarron, but from all over Stirling and Central Scotland-  the standard of biking in the area is superb and has featured in national magazines.

In addition, when the quarry is operational access may also be limited.  The quarry area itself is very popular with local children for riding mountain bikes - where will they go if they are not allowed to ride here?
I urge you to ensure that Stirling Council withdraws planning consent for quarrying  before a valuable local resource is lost  forever.

Best wishes

I was up at N3 and cambu at the weekend and bumped into a local guy on a giant vts (sorry, forgot yer name).  Showed me an ace wee trail zipping through the woods that I had never joined up properly before.

The big scam is that they've not even decided whether they're building a bridge or a tunnel yet (the rock is to be used for the bridge apparently).

I did raise it at the Mercat Cross and City Centre Community Council but it is not in our zone and the lorries won't be coming our way (1 every 10 minutes).  The council are very aware of it but seem to be holding back from doing anything - which is deeply suspicious.

I've had a response back from Andrew Arbuckle MSP - one of the regional MSPs - and he has written to Mike Stewart, Head of Planning and Regulation, Stirling
Council asking for clarification on the issue and timescale of the
plans.  He has also enquired as to the number of concerns submitted and how they
intend to deal with the application.

So - write to your MSP now!
