Strange old race and my first since the RR champs. I actually thought I was doing the Ross McDonald road race so will teach me to check the circuit and race location before setting off in the morning.....
Have done this race a few times but not for a few years. Circuit is pretty good but no really big hills to split the bunch. There were quite a few attacks but just none that stuck. Best one was on first lap and had a JLS and LBS rider in. The bunch was being nicely controlled by both those teams who had a fair few riders in the race and Wayne and I did big turns along with a VE rider to pull it back. After that nothing really got away. Big respect has to go out to Paul McInally though who got away on the first big loop and was on his own for a fair hoik only to caught but then went away again on the last lap for several miles and nearly made it to the turn onto the finishing straight before he was caught.
A few were shelled out early doors as the race did start off pretty quick and the move for the hill prime also caught out a few people and split the race into 2 groups at that point.
The sprint finish was always going to be carnage - a tight left hander onto a climb meant everyone was trying to get a good position on the narrow road before. I was mid bunch coming around the corner but had to take evasive action and ended up on the verge which dropped me near the back and so started by my sprint rather late, hence resulting in my weaving through a bit of an obstacle course up to the finish line, oh well......
