A tough day in the saddle...I'm sure Bibs and Mr Leadbetter will agree. It was pretty windy and there were long drags directly into the wind for miles, or so it felt.  ;) One of those days when you feel like you never really get the full benefit of the wind but spend a long time battling against it!

An amazing ride by Phil Kelman with a blistering time on that course. I managed to keep him at bay until 70miles then my legs fell off and he put a lot of time into me in the last 30 miles. Think I could have got a bit closer to him if I had paced it better but no way I was going to beat him, he was flying.

A good race though and a very welcoming bunch who did a great job with the organisation and marshaling. The course may sound daunting up and down the main Aberdeen to Dundee road, mostly on dual carriageway, but I felt it was safer than a lot of other TT courses about as there was really good visibility and plenty of room for traffic to pass you. I would rec comend it next year for anyone who fancies giving a 100 a go.

E.

p.s. This was only the warm up to the Bib's v's Leadlegs battle...a mere appetite wetter. The main event, being billed as one of the 21st centuries great battles of 2 great sporting heavyweights (one slightly heavier than the other  ;) ), is in 2 weeks time in deepest darkest Cheshire! Watch this space and expect fireworks...or at least some smoke from their chamois! I, for one, will be more interested in the outcome of this clash of titans, than the other minor sporting event in Paris!

Mano a Mano! as Phil might say  ;)

they'll be packing suitcases full of courage and digging deep into the pain cave (and that might just be on the drive down  :o) )

Yes hmmmmmmmm - where do I start. Well if truth be told, I just wished I hadn't.

It's a bad day in the office when after only a couple of miles I'm thinking of chucking it - I'm sure I would get some sort of sympathy id I 'punctured'.  Couldn't get comfortable as I'm struggling to find that elusive position on my new TT bike that I find so much easier to find on my road bike - sort of your moving from one position to another and the bike is biting back in a rather uncomfortable place.

However, I persevered becuase I knew with my confidence already being low, it would be in the depths of despair if I couldn't even do a 100 mile TT never mind what is coming up.  Another motivator was my 2 min man whom I had driven up - the thought of the drive back being a non-finisher failure kept some sort of cadence going.

Anyways what lessons were learned:

1) I really need to work on my position following sensitive under carriage and sore shoulders / forearms
2) Bought a new saddle ISM Adamo Prologue that I'll need to ride a few times before 21/7 - doing 30 mile TT on Sunday
3) using an 82 front wheel in windy (side wind) conditions not clever especially on A90 although I must say the drivers were very good (there were warnings about us on the overhead signs).  Therefore there were 2 fights; position and wind
4) Placing my Garmin 500 on the stem is not a good idea.  During the ride when I bent my neck forward to see my Garmin and then lifted my head up again I started to get blurred vision, which lasted 5 - 10 secs so I stopped doing this as the longer I rode the blurriness seemed to last longer.

I've mentioned 2 fights, well after the ride there was nearly a 3rd, which required me to become an 'unbiased' referee between SBC and Deeside Thistle i.e. the one holding the gilets.

I would suggest that the contest was a draw with both parties having a different view on matters - if I can put it that way.

Needless to say that on the drive back I was praising Marko the Badgerine with solid strength Titanium Legs of how magnificent his performance was and what a top bloke he is.  I also ensured that I apologised profusely if I had caused him any offence either in deed or word in the last few years in the hope that I would arrive home safely and in one piece.

Can I suggest that if Marko is doing any bikey repairs for you just now -regardless of the price just praise him for his super duper professionalism and thank him from the bottom of your heart.  You may also wish to keep your engine running ....

As I was keen to keep my post succinct I unfortunately omitted to mention Eddie and Phil's performnces - if u were there you would appreciate how amazing they were considering the windy conditions.

Chapeau gentlemen.   :o ;D :o
