Following this week’s committee meeting we’d like to update you on our re-starting plans for a number of club activities.
As we re-start, for all club activities, members will need to sign up to the Spond service and book their place on advertised rides/sessions/events. This will allow us to a) record the legally required contact details for contact tracing, b) ensure that we do not exceed the permitted number of riders on a ride, c) remove the burden of secure GDPR compliant record keeping from ride leaders.
SBC Spond sign-up here:
- there may be a 24hr delay before your account becomes active as we are cross-checking the membership database before adding users. You can sign up with or without ride/event alerts and we have created groups relevant to different disciplines so that you only receive the notifications you might be interested in.
Mountain Bike / Off-Road
Limited MTB rides have restarted already as permitted by the regulations - these will be ‘advertised’ via the Spond service - if you sign up to the MTB section and opt to receive notifications you will get details of planned MTB rides via email. Note ’Stay Local’ guidance still applies at least until 26th April.
Saturday Road Rides
I’d like to thank the Road Ride Leaders for their positive responses to re-starting. Whilst people’s level of comfort does vary, without asking any RRL to lead when they’re not comfortable/happy to do so and in line with our previous email, we hope to be able to re-start limited road rides on 1st May. As the season progress and hopefully Covid declines more rides will become possible.
However - this will depend on guidance received from Sport Scotland and Scottish Cycling. The current guidance at both level’s 3 & 4 require us to maintain social distancing of 2m before, during, and after the ride. Whilst it’s possible/easy to maintain more than 2m behind, it is harder to maintain 2m when two-abreast with a sufficient gap from the kerb and the centre line and not risk rider safety from every passing car/lorry. We feel that until this is reduced to 1m during activity or removed then it may be difficult to properly restart rides safely and effectively.
Club Confined Time Trials
We have some provisional dates lined up when we plan to run the 2021 series of club confined time trials - we are proposing to have these all as 10 mile time trials as it reduces the number of marshal’s needed.
Planned Dates: Wed 26th May, Wed 30th June, Wed 28th July, Wed 25th August
The earliest we can plan to restart the Warriors is W/C 26th April, - again subject to government/Scottish Cycling guidance. Recognising the late start we are also looking at continuing to run some Warriors sessions/events through the summer. Further details will be distributed to warriors/parents directly.
Here’s hoping for a better summer of cycling!
All the best,
