Hi Andrew - it’d be great if we had enough people to split into 2 groups but realistically I doubt that will happen (would be great to be proven wrong!!).
So, I think we need to play it by ear a bit and see how the rides go in terms of numbers/pace BUT......the key ethos of the club is “no-one gets dropped” so I think there’s a collective responsibility on all of us to make sure that the rides are at a pace which is suitable for all.
As you say, the occasional “kicking” can stretch us but it’s no fun if it’s permanent!! And it’s true that the pace last year was getting pushed up a bit.....I remember those kickings!!
So, I’d personally encourage as many people to come out as possible and we manage the pace to suit all!
I was talking to a few others on Saturdays faster inter group about the Thursday night rides originally titled "gentle ride" this season, I know last year it was middle group pace but I feel all the groups have got quicker (or more likely, I'm getting slower, or both ) I got a kick in a few times and although that is needed from time to time it's not wanted all the time. If there is enough folk can I suggest splitting into two groups? Im looking for fast inter/slow middle about 15mph average. I certainly don't want to hold folk back so happy to head out on my own.
Now that the Festive Period is over, I’m keen to get back to the Thursday night rides so thought I’d post up to canvas support!! I plan to make it most weeks sssuming I can get back from work in time.
So, usual arrangements - meet at the bus stop on main road across from Dobbies at 7pm on Thursday nights with decent lights and any hi-viz gear you have!!
Last year we were regularly getting 6-12 riders and it would be great to get back to those numbers, so if it’s not something you’ve done before but you fancy it, it’d be great to see some new faces! The pace is aimed at a “steady” middle level but we can vary (up or down) depending on the group - the main objective is to get outdoors and get some winter miles in .
Usual route is Chalmerston - Coldoch Rd - Thornhill and back on main road past The Smiddy to Chalmerston Rd. We can vary slightly on icy nights and stick to main gritted roads. Distance is approx 23 miles.
I’m happy to post up weekly and would appreciate if people could post on the thread if they plan to come to avoid anyone turning up to find they’re on their own!
So, starting this Thursday (10th Jan) I plan to be there at 7pm.
Anyone else care to join in?
