On Saturday 26th August just under 100 members of SBC gathered at the Scout Hut by Loch Venacher for a series of bike rides and BBQ in memory of Dave Jorgensen. Dave was a long standing coach of the Wallace Warriors, ride leader and influential member of the club who died tragically a couple of years ago from cancer.
There was a selection of rides for members to choose from, ranging from 25 up to 50 miles, with a pace to suit everyone. Most of these took in the epic climb of the Dukes Pass near Aberfoyle - one of Dave's favourites. There was also off-road rides taking in the scenic surroundings at a more leisurely pace. Despite some early showers the weather quickly cleared and members were treated to blue skies and sunshine.
After the rides, members were treated to a BBQ, all prepared by club chairman Norrie Petrie. Nearly 200 burgers and sausages were consumed (well we had all been out cycling!), as member sat around in the glorious sunshine enjoying each others company.
Through donations taken on the day the club was able to raise £662 for the Strathcarron Hospice.
Dave was a committed member and gave up a lot of his time helping get us to where we are today. We had a great turnout of Stirling riders, out in their blue and white club kit. Seeing all their happy faces coming back, having enjoyed some great club riding - it's a fitting way to remember him. Thanks go to the Scouts for allowing us the use of their excellent facility in such a beautiful location.
